Due: Thursday, Feb 2nd, by end of class
**Have preliminary pics for Tuesday, Jan 31st.**
What story will you tell with a series of photos? Explore different compositions and placements on the page.
Take pictures with your camera or camera phone. Pictures should be well lit and in focus. All your pictures will be converted into grayscale. No color will be used. Your pictures should have good contrast = from white to pure black. Pictures that have too much gray or mid tones do not read as well.
Your final print maximum will be 11×17. If you want, you can choose to do one long strip either vertically or horizontally. Either way your piece needs to extend to 17″ to utilized the maximum print area.
Develop your story ideas into a list of 10-15 items to be included with your post. As your story develops write out a short story and include with your post. (min. 75 words)
There should be a minimum of 3 pics. Post all sketches, lists and final to your blog under the name P01: Photo Narrative Series.
We will also mount your print, so bring all supplies by Thursday, Feb 2nd. We will be mounting our work, so I would have your work ready to print early within the class time. This will save you some headache as you won’t be fighting for the printer.
Examples from online:
Converting your images to Grayscale (Black and White) using Gradient Map.
The Gradient Map will allow you to adjust the amount of value in your image. For example, if you have an image that is too light or white and you want to darken it a bit, you can set your white point to light gray. You can also boost your blacks so that they saturate more of the image. I will introduce the Gradient Map to you and ways to adjust it for your desired effect. Remember not to push the whites or blacks too much as they might render your images unreadable.
